Schools almost
out; boats are coming out of the
yard, and the fish are biting;
Gotta Be Tournament Season!
NEWSFLASH: We are
trying to be the accommodating and
friendly tournament here in the Gulf
of Mexico. With this in mind, we
have decided to let boats leave from
any port on Thursday, May 29 at 4pm.
Boats not departing from Venice MUST
video their departure with a time
and date stamp video camera (easiest
way to do this is to video the dock
boys waving to you then turn around
and shoot your GPS screen showing
time and location). Boats must also
check in with Tournament
Headquarters for a video identifier
on Thursday afternoon. Also, our
Wednesday, May 28 Captain’s Meeting
is non-mandatory. We will be
publishing both Billfish Score Cards
and Tournament Information Sheets on
our website (www.comefishLa.com)
for all tournament participants to
download. It’s not too late to
enter, but Wednesday at 7pm is our
registration deadline. If you would
like to overnight (Federal Express,
UPS, or DHL ONLY) a certified
or cashier’s check, please
use the following address:

This will be our 3rd year
at the new and improved
Venice Marina. The Butler
Brothers have been hard at work and
I am certain we will all enjoy the
new pavilion, along with the covered
patio area around Crawgators Bar and
Grill. Check out the new
condominiums and walkways north of
the backdown ramp—quite an
improvement!
Now, on to the fishing part of this
newsletter. The Blue Marlin bite has
been on for the spring. Numerous
boats have been getting multiple
shots on a daily basis, with some
boats raising 3-5 fish per day. Come
fish with the big boys like the
Patriot, Pass-It-On,
Contigo, Bushwhacker
(defending Blue Marlin champion),
Revolution (defending
Tag/Release champion), Work of
Art, Conundrum, First
Choice, Blue Line,
Surprise, Reel Bounty,
Faux Pas, Junkyard Dog,
Mariposa, Miss Regal,
Reel Addiction, Zephyr
(defending Top Youth Angler),
Mechan, Top Gun,
Sultrap, Override,
Tenacious, and the list goes on
and on. These guys (and gals—can’t
leave Phyllis out of the mix) know
what they are doing and are not shy
when it comes to tournament
fishing—they fish and play hard!
Now, the fun part…we start with our
Dock Party, Tuesday, May 27, hosted
by the Butler Brothers at the new
and improved
Crawgators Bar and Grill. Come
early and enjoy the festivities with
spirits provided by
Tommy Bahama Rum,
Woodford Reserve,
Mako Vodka,
Don Eduardo Tequila and our new
Official Beer,
Miller High Life. Wednesday, May
28, is our Official Registration Day
with Captains Bags, Optional
Entries, our non-mandatory Captain’s
Meeting, saving the best for
last---that scrumptious
Acme Oyster House Oyster Bar and
Seafood Buffet!
After all of that, we get to
Thursday (and we haven’t started
fishing yet)—time for a
Mako Vodka and
TABASCO Bloody Mary—what better
way to start the day? From 9am until
12noon will be your last chance at
our Optional Entry Categories. We
will continue that fine Louisiana
tradition with a “Blessing of the
Fleet” by a Father John from St.
Patricks in Port Sulphur, La.,
always a good thing to do before our
official boat departure time of 4pm.
Friday, May 30 at 12:01 am starts
our “Lines in the Water” with
fishing continuing until 4pm,
Saturday, May 31, with boats
required to be back inside and
checked in at
Venice Marina PRIOR to 7pm
Saturday evening. That evening, we
will christen the new pavilion at
Venice Marina with their first
Saturday night weigh-in party with a
repeat performance by the good
people from
Acme Oyster House,
Miller High Life, and the fine
stable of adult beverages from our
friends at
Brown-Forman.
Sunday, morning, it’s Hot coffee and
those
Mako Vodka/TABASCO
Bloody Mary’s all over again, but
this time, with BIG checks,
Release Marine custom teak step
boxes, our now-famous winning gift
bags for each and every winning
Captain with
Maui Jim gift certificates
(simply the best sunglasses out
there), loads of other wonderful
stuff, along with those great
TABASCO gift buckets, not too
mention lovely custom trophies from
American Trophy. Play hard and
bring your wheelbarrow—you just
might need it.
In closing, the season is upon us;
let’s go catch some big fish and win
some big $$$$$.
WE THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!!
