Well, It’s That
Time of Year Again---Let’s Go
Fishing !!!
Attention Tournament Anglers:
Yes, it’s that time of year again;
get the boat out of the yard because
the fish are still biting. We have
had numerous sightings of Billfish,
including both Blue and White
Marlin, with Capt. Kevin Beach of
Reel Peace Charters tagging a
nice Blue this past week. We also
have sighting reports from Mad Dog,
Devils Tower and Medusa. Recently,
there was a line only 12 miles
offshore with a 7 degree temperature
change holding chicken
Dolphin----it’s gonna be a good one
this year!
Congratulations go out to Scott
Cooper and Russell Kraft of the 65’
Hatteras CE out of Orange
Beach, Alabama. Scott and Russell
won the 2007
Billfish Foundation Tag/Release
Award for
Swordfish---CONGRATULATIONS to these
Gulf of Mexico boys for representing
us well.
Now, let’s talk about the 4th
Annual Cajun Canyons Billfish
Classic, May 27---June 1, 2008.
NEWSFLASH: We are
trying to be the accommodating and
friendly tournament here in the Gulf
of Mexico. With this in mind, we
have decided to let boats leave from
any port on Thursday, May 29 at 4pm.
Boats not departing from Venice MUST
video their departure with a time
and date stamp video camera (easiest
way to do this is to video the dock
boys waving to you then turn around
and shoot your GPS screen showing
time and location).
We are returning to
Venice Marina this year for our
4th Annual Cajun Canyons Billfish
Classic, May 27 through June 1,
2008. The good ole Butler Brothers
and the staff at Venice Marina have
continued to make improvements with
a new bulkhead north of the back
down ramp along with new transient
slips and two of their new
condominiums. They have also added a
complete cover to the upper patio
area between the marina store and
their bar/restaurant, Crawgators.
Speaking of the Crawgators
restaurant and bar, this will be the
location of our Dock Party, Tuesday,
May 27, 2008 with loads of Cajun
food and of course, our Open Bar;
come early and have a good time.
Our Captains Meeting and Kick Off
Party will again be sponsored by our
good friends at LeBeouf Brothers
Towing and
Southern Scrap and Recycling. If
you were with us last year, you
remember the GOOD food provided by
none other than
Acme Oyster House; well, we are
already planning our menus and yes,
ACME will return to feed us all. You
gotta love that bread pudding!
Our Saturday night has changed
somewhat. This year, after our
Saturday evening (May 31, 2008)
weigh-in, we are going to have a
PARTY, featuring Acme Oyster House
food along with LOTS of adult
beverages. Then, on Sunday, June 1,
we will feature Bloody Marys, Strong
Coffee and loads of PRIZES and
CHECKS to our winners.
Our 2008
Entry Forms are available online
and now is the time to Get er Done
and be eligible for our Early Bird
Drawing to win a free entry and be
guaranteed a good slip. Get in early
and have more chances to win.
This year marks our second year
being a qualifying tournament for
the
I.G.F.A. Offshore World Championship
with our Top Boat (Based on total
Billfish Points) not only receiving
the
Area Wholesale Tire C.R. “Bob”
Potter Memorial Trophy, but also
being invited to fish against some
of the best fishermen in the world
at the IGFA Offshore World
Championship in Cabo San Lucas.
On a closing note, we want to thank
our participants from past years
along with our
sponsors, the Best of the Best.
See you at the docks.
WE THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!!
Regards from Venice,
Steve Thomas
Tournament Director
